Arsonist Lit T-Shirt On Fire, Shoved It Through VA Neighbor's Mail Slot: Police

A Fredericksburg woman has found herself behind bars after lighting a t-shirt on fire and shoving it through her neighbor's front door mail slot, police said.

The homeowner on the 1200 block of Caroline Street smelled smoke and found the fiery t-shirt around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, Fredericksburg police said.

The resident put out the fire and called the E-911 Communications Center to report the arson. The Fredericksburg Fire Department and Fredericksburg police responded to investigate. 

Fire Marshal Crisp led the investigation and identified the suspect as Ariel Richardson, Fredericksburg police announced. She was arrested Friday, June 23 and charged with burning an occupied dwelling. She was being held without bond.
